Garmin GPSMAP 178C

The GPSMAP 178C fish finder by Garmin is one of their latest entries into the marine electronics market.

This is a very attractive unit that has a:

  • Chartplotter
  • Sounder
  • 4.5 inch color LCD
  • GPS
  • Trolling speed monitor

The GPSMAP 178C fishfinder has single or dual-frequency transducer output and up to 500 watts of power. And is comes standard with a built-in marine basemap. It will also accept MapSource BlueChart marine cartography.

But, the big selling point of the Garmin GPSMAP 178C is the fully integrated chartplotter and sonar. This is the meat of the system.

Now, many inland lake anglers will find the compatibility with the MapSource Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots to be something to be simply awesome.

Now you'll be able to find fishing areas, boat ramps, marinas, and hazards for hundreds of lakes in the United States and Canada. A feature well worth having.

The GPSMAP 178C is priced under $1000 and comes in a compact console for ease of use.
